Updated 19 October 2026.
The extension connects your open HereWhen Watch Together tab to a transparent chat overlay on Crunchyroll or Netflix. It receives your selected buddy's name and portrait, session activity, chat messages and emoji reactions to display the conversation.
Messages are relayed between those tabs through Chrome's extension messaging. When you send a message, the signed-in HereWhen app processes it through its existing service and AI providers, subject to HereWhen's normal privacy, consent and account rules.
The extension does not copy your passwords, login tokens or cookies. It does not capture video, bypass playback protection, collect browsing history, use advertising trackers or send analytics. Existing screen sharing in the HereWhen app remains separate and still requires your consent.
Extension storage holds tab identifiers for the current browser session. Chat messages are not saved to extension storage. The live overlay holds a bounded display history in memory; HereWhen's normal conversation storage is separate.
Crunchyroll or Netflix access for automatic display is included in the extension’s installation permissions. You can revoke it in your browser's extension settings, hide the overlay, or uninstall the extension. Removing the extension does not delete your HereWhen account or its conversations.
